Borakalalo – meaning “Place where people relax”, is a 14000-hectare, malaria free provincial park, situated 60 km north of Brits.

Bird viewing is exceptional with over 350 bird species recorded, including rarities such as the African Finfoot. It is also the home to 35 species of mammals including Giraffe, White Rhino,  and a wide variety of Antelope.  See More About….

This hike winds up the southern face of the Magaliesberg mountain, through wooded kloofs and Protea studded grassland.  When you reach the summit you’ll enjoy a vulture’s eye view of the terrain below. 

Touch ripple marks in rocks formed by ancient seas 2050 mil years ago, and to the north look over landscape moulded by the Bushveld complex, rich in minerals.

A reasonable level of fitness and stout walking shoes are required for this trip.

Sterkfontein Caves and Maropeng

The Sterkfontein Caves are owned by the Wits University, whose scientists have been responsible for the main excavations of the World Heritage Site. They are credited with many of the famous discoveries including the world famous “Mrs Ples” and “Little Foot”, a skeleton dating back more than 3-million years.

The Maropeng Visitor Centre is an exciting, world-class exhibition, focusing on the development of humans and our ancestors over the past few million years.

Pick-up and drop from Rosebank or Sandton Hotels at 8h30, transport to Stekfontein.

Cave tour at Sterkfontein.

Proceed to museum of the History of Mankind at Maropeng.

Situated in a World Heritage Site, The Cradle of Humankind, this 1 000 hectare park is home to over 700 head of game including white rhino, lion, buffalo, cheetah, wild dog, hippo and crocodile. The newly built breeding centre houses inter alia, Bengal and Syberian tigers, jaguars and white lions.

Pilanesberg Game Reserve is in the North West Province, approx 200 km from Joburg.

Set in the crater of a long extinct volcano, the Park covers and area of 55 000 hectares (it is in fact the fourth largest park).

Over time, wind and water have carved a spectacular landscape with rocky outcrops, open grasslands, wooded valleys and thickets.

Pilanesberg National Park accommodates virtually every mammal of southern Africa. Also home to the Big Five.

The Lion Park is home to over 80 lions including the rare white lions and many other carnivores such as cheetah, wild dog, brown hyena, striped hyena, spotted hyena, black-backed jackal, side-striped jackal, and a wide variety of antelopes. Guests have an opportunity to interact with some of the animals in the Cub World area which has a giraffe feeding platform that puts you at eye level with our tame resident giraffe.

The Vredefort structure is currently regarded as the biggest and oldest but one clearly visible impact structure on Earth.  Within the ring of hills at Vredefort is found granitic gneiss rock - as in the Johannesburg Dome - which is dated at some 3200 million years old.

The tour includes a video which simulates the impact over 2 000 million years ago, a visit to a disused mine, an a visit to the quarry on the crater floor, and an archaeological site.

Against the backdrop of the magnificent Witpoortjie waterfall, this Garden (previously called the Witwatersrand National Botanical Garden) covers almost 300 hectares and consists of both landscaped and natural veld areas.

The variety of habitats accommodates over 600 naturally occurring plant species.

A breeding pair of majestic Verreaux's Eagles nest on the cliffs alongside the waterfall. The Garden is home to an abundance of wildlife.

Tswaing is one of the most well-preserved impact crater sites in the world.  200 000 years ago, a  meteorite with a diameter of approx. 50 m slammed into the earth. 

Enjoy interpretive guiding along a 7.2 Km hike to the crater floor.  A fair level of fitness is required, and good walking shoes.

Set in indigenous Bushveld, remnants of earlier salt mines and economic activity can still be seen.

Interpretative guided 7.2 Km hike into the crater.

The Suikerbosrand Nature Reserve covers an area of 11,595ha and was named after the Transvaal Suikerbos, (Protea Caffra). The reserve is within an hours drive of Johannesburg and lies close to the town of Heidelberg.

The main feature of the reserve is the Suikerbosrand Mountain Range that forms the backbone of the reserve and varies in height between 1,545m and 1,917m above sea level.

Choose between a short, 4km long interpretive walking trail (Cheetah Trail) and a 10km (Bokmakierie) day visitor trail. There is also a 60km long motor vehicle tourist route.

Choice of 6 km or 10 km hike, or a game drive, accompanied by interpretive guides.
